Employee Benefits

When employees are asked why they like working for Spokane County, they often refer to excellent working conditions and comprehensive benefits. The following is a brief description of the benefits currently offered to employees of Spokane County (in regular status). Benefits are subject to change and may differ according to collective bargaining agreements. Further information is available through the Human Resources Department.

Paid Leave

A generous paid leave program is provided.

Spokane County Observed Holidays

Ten paid holidays are observed by County employees. Non-represented employees have an additional "Personal Holiday". Represented employees should consult their contract.

Medical Insurance

Two plans are currently available: PREMERA BLUECROSS, GROUP HEALTH. Medical insurance is provided to the employee, cost varies depending on plan and contract. Additional premium cost to the employee may incur for spouse and family members coverage.

Dental Insurance

Two plans are currently available; WILLAMETTE DENTAL, WASHINGTON DENTAL SERVICE. Dental insurance is provided to the employee, cost varies depending on plan and contract. Additional premium cost to the employee may incur for spouse and family members coverage. 

Long Term Disability Coverage

All employees are automatically enrolled for Long Term Disability except Spokane County Deputy Sheriff's Association.  STANDARD - LTD CERTIFICATION

Retirement Plan

Spokane County employees are automatically included in the WASHINGTON STATE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM (PERS, PSERS & LEOFF). Both the employer and the employee contribute to the plan.

Life Insurance

The County provides a $10,000 employee group life insurance policy to each employee. This benefit is paid in full by Spokane County. In addition to the $10,000 group life insurance policy, additional voluntary life insurance may be purchased by the employee for self, spouse and dependents.  STANDARD - BASIC $10,000 and AD/D CERTIFICATION  andSTANDARD - VOLUNTARY CERTIFICATION

Tax Deferred Compensation

Employees may supplement their retirement income and save money on taxes by participating in this optional County program.  GREAT WEST and NATIONWIDE.

Employee Assistance Program

Employees and their family members are eligible to receive free confidential assistance from an outside agency  to assist with problems related to: marriage, family, alcohol, drugs, personal and work. These services are available up to 8 sessions per year.

In addition, Spokane County offers its employees access to credit union membership, a variety of on-going training programs, an Employee Suggestion Award program, a Commute Trip Reduction program, direct payroll deposit, etc.

Part-time employees in regular status receive pro-rated benefits.
