Probation/Community Supervision

A Probation Officer monitors juvenile offenders in our community to ensure they are complying with the terms and conditions of the Court Order.  Probation Officers identify protective and risk factors by administering a statewide standardized Risk Assessment.  They then develop a case plan with the youth and facilitate appropriate community interventions.

Probation Officers collaborate with community resources to reduce risk factors and strengthen protective factors.  Juvenile Court contracts with various agencies in the community to provide family counseling, sex offender treatment, drug and alcohol treatment, etc.

Cases are assigned to Probation Officers using two criteria:

• Where the offender lives, and/or
• The offense 

Four Probation Officers are assigned to the geographical boundaries of East Valley, West Valley, Central Valley, University, Cheney and Medical Lake High Schools.

Two Probation Officers are assigned to the geographical boundaries of Deer Park, Riverside, Mt. Spokane, and Mead High Schools.

Three Probation Officers are assigned to the geographical boundaries of Shadle Park and John R. Rogers High Schools.  This team has a satellite office in the Shadle Park COP Shop.

Cases with the geographical boundaries of North Central, Lewis and Clark, and Joel E. Ferris High School are divided among all the supervision Probation Officers. 

Two Probation Officers supervise Drug Court youth county-wide.  The mission of the Spokane County Juvenile Drug Court is to divert certain drug abusing offenders from confinement into a highly structured program that combines treatment, education, and intensive supervision to reduce drug use and associated criminal activity. 

Two Probation Officers supervise all sex offenders county-wide. 

Violations of Probation

Violations of Probation are handled using a variety of graduated sanctions that include:

• Community service work
• Attendance at a skill building evening program
• Electronic monitoring, and
• Secure Detention
