Mission Statement
The SAC School serves our community by promoting education, accountability, and positive change for delinquent and truant youth. The SAC school serves over 200 students annually.
Educational Service District 101 operates the SAC School program and promotes educational excellence by delivering essential, cooperative services to students, schools and other learning communities.
Goals
The purpose of the SAC School program is to provide pre-adjudicated, adjudicated, at-risk youth, parole, and truancy students with a well rounded education. Students participating in our program will learn and demonstrate the following:
- Confidence as a learner and person
- Self-direction as a learner
- Concern and respect for others
- Problem solving, decision making, and critical thinking skills
- Increase knowledge and skills in basic educational subjects
- Effective communication skills
Our school is aligned with the Washington Student Learning Goals. Focus on pre-vocational education and restorative justice is an important part of our curriculum. Keeping the youth connected and current with their school is a major focus. Student needs are forefront in our teaching philosophy.
SAC School Program
The Structured Alternative Confinement School (SAC) is operated in the Spokane County Juvenile Justice Building and is a non-residential program. The school provides educational services for court ordered youth and electronic monitored youth. Classroom instruction is provided by two Washington State certified teachers and two Title One instructional assistants. Students, though enrolled for a relatively short period of time, are given a chance to increase their knowledge and skills in basic education. The program also:
- Connects youth with an appropriate educational placement within the community
- Offers GED pre-testing and instruction towards successful GED completion
