Benefits

  • Holds status offenders (Truancy and At-Risk-Youth) accountable for not following court order conditions.
  • Reduces overcrowding and the unnecessary use of detention.
  • Minority mentoring is provided along with a family component for all parents.

What is the Weekend Program?

This program encourages status offenders to identify reasons for continued violation of at-risk and truancy petitions and to learn the skills and steps needed to make better decisions in the future.

What are the goals of the weekend program?

  • Provide an alternative for status offenders to detention;
  • Increase skills to avoid further law or court order violations;
  • Build relationships in an open atmosphere that allows status offenders the opportunity to discuss immediate issues.
  • Instill responsibility through community service opportunities.
  • Referral to appropriate community resources.

When and Where is the program?

Please meet at the Juvenile Court main lobby on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. sharp. 
DO NOT BE LATE. LUNCH IS PROVIDED.

Medication:

A parent or legal guardian must present staff with any medication to be taken during class time: 9:00-3:00 p.m.

Pick up Time is 3:00 P.M.

The youth will participate in a community   service project from 12:00-3:00 p.m. and need to be picked up from their designated site or ride the city transit.  The youth notify their  legal guardian of where they are and how they are getting home.

What to expect?

You will actively participate in all program activities. 
Using instruction, role-play and discussion we will focus on the skills needed to prevent re-offense and staying in school.

  • Drug & Alcohol Awareness
  • Job Skills
  • Decision Making
  • Cultural and Gender Awareness
  • Choices and Consequences
  • Character Development
  • Anger Management

Course Agenda

  • Group rules and expectations
  •   Individual “Jam” sessions (youth talking with a mentor about their life and what challenges face them.)
  • Skill Building programming
  • Lunch
  • Community Service

Rules and Expectations

  • No assaultive or intimidating behavior.
  • No gang-related talk, behavior, clothing or writing.
  • Follow the directions of the   Instructor without arguing.
  • No profanity or disrespect     toward any person in the group.
  • No possession or use of drugs, alcohol or cigarettes on the premises.
  • NO SLEEPING.  KEEP YOUR HEAD UP.  BE ALERT!
  • Display a positive image and attitude.
  • Be mindful of others, no fragranced products, using cologne or perfume.
  • PARTICIPATE, PARTICIPATE, PARTICIPATE. 

Unacceptable Dress or Attire

  • Bare Midriff
  • Visible Undergarments or none
  • Short shorts
  • Halter tops, spaghetti straps
  • Clothing or jewelry promoting drug or alcohol use
  • Combs or picks worn in the hair
  • Sagging, rolled, or tucked pant legs
  • Offensive symbols on clothing
  • Promotion of gang colors
  • No altered shoestrings
  • Visible Cleavage
  • Excessive jewelry or chains

What TO bring with you

What NOT to bring with you

  • Electronic devices
  • Weapons
  • Cigarettes/lighters

Consequences for failing to succeed in the program

Participating Youth are required to attend all days as stated in the court order. 
Failure to attend will result in further court action and possibly a warrant for their arrest.
