Spokane County’s Building and Planning Department has expanded its online services in an effort to speed up the permitting process for residential trade permits, as well as roofing, siding, and window replacement permits.
Rather than faxing in an application or walking into the permit center, contractors and homeowner’s alike are able to apply and pay for permits and request inspections over the internet. Additionally, Spokane County has created a regional services program to find the appropriate jurisdiction in which to apply for a permit.
Starting with www.spokanecounty.org/permits, you are able to locate your parcel by typing in an address. If the parcel is in the City of Spokane, the City of Spokane Valley, or in the unincorporated areas of Spokane County (all of which have online permitting systems) you can click directly into the appropriate permit system. For the region’s other cities, it will take you to their permit center webpage.
The County’s Online Permit Center has created more than 85 online permits since its September 3 opening date. When individuals that have used the system to date were asked about how they feel about its availability. Environment West commented, “As a busy landscaping company, the ability to do County permits online is wonderful, and the application process is so simple!” Barton Roofing said, “I am SO VERY happy that Spokane County now has the Online Permit Center. I love that I can go online and apply for, pay for, and receive my permits within a matter of minutes. I don't have to wait and wonder if I have received my permits in the mail...I have it right away and can cross it off my "to do" list. It is so much faster to schedule inspections online and you have a ‘paper trail’ to make sure you really did schedule it. The Online Permit Center makes my job so much easier...thank you!!”
Spokane County’s Building Director Randy Vissia informed his peers at both cities about the new regional approach, “Great news, the County ISD Department has upgraded ‘Build Regional Spokane’ web link so that users looking for services have the option to link directly to each of our online permit systems based on the property’s location which is pretty cool”. They responded in kind, offering, “Nice work at the regional approach level “.
