Superior Court Administrator
Spokane Superior Court Presiding Judge Ellen Clark announced the appointment of Ms. Tami Chavez to the position of Superior Court Commissioner, effective January 2, 2014. Ms. Chavez received her undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of Phoenix in Tucson, Arizona, a graduate degree in Accounting from Gonzaga University, and her Juris Doctorate from Gonzaga University School of Law. She stated that she is honored and excited to serve her community in this position.
Her prior legal experience includes contract legal work with the State Office of Public Defense, handling dependency matters. She was also in private practice, with a focus on family law litigation, dissolutions, child custody, paternity, and appellate practice. Ms. Chavez has also served as a Superior Court Commissioner Pro-Tem since 2011.
“Tami’s experience in dependency and family law matters, and her judicial experience as a pro-tem court commissioner will allow her to hit the ground running in what is a very busy court environment”, according to Judge Clark.
“She brings with her a strong work ethic and a genuine enthusiasm for this very complex area of the law. She is an excellent addition to our bench.”
Ms. Chavez replaces Commissioner Valerie Jolicoeur, who is retiring from the Court after serving as a Court Commissioner for almost 15 years.
