Today, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously appointed Marine Corps. Colonel Timothy W. Fitzgerald (retired) as Spokane County Clerk effective Thursday, April 24, 2014, when he will be sworn into office. The time and location will be announced later this week.
During his 30+ year career with the U.S. Marines Corps, Fitzgerald developed expertise in line and general management, the military justice system, staff coordination and operations. Highlights of his career include:
• 1985 – Aviation Safety Officer/Air Mission Commander of the Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 465, Tustin, CA.
• 1993 – Officer-in-Charge of the Presidential Helicopter Squadron Alert Facility, Washington D.C.
• 2009 – Director of Operations I MEF, Camp Pendleton, CA.
• 2011 – Chief of Staff I MEF Forward and Regional Command SW, Afghanistan.
Colonel Fitzgerald also has extensive experience with the military justice system,
including the administration of Courts Martial Boards of Inquiry, Special Courts Martial, and the Judge Advocate’s Office.
During his career, Fitzgerald was also named 1998 Pilot of the Year, Naval Helicopter Association, Region 1; he was designated an Air Mission Commander; and, designated a Presidential Command Pilot and White House Aircraft Commander.
When announcing Fitzgerald’s appointment, the County Commissioners cited his extensive experience in directing and managing large organizations that execute complex tasks and his outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
The appointment will be in effect until the results of the November 4th General Election are certified on November 25, 2014, when the winner of the General Election will officially take office for the remainder of 2014 and the next four years.
