Spokane County Treasurer's Office
Delinquent tax statements will start hitting mailboxes on July 1, 2014. The Spokane County Treasurer’s Office is mailing almost 12,000 statements to tax payers who are behind on their taxes. If you receive a delinquent statement and have questions, contact the Treasurer’s office at (509) 477-4713 or go to www.spokanecounty.org/treasurer.
Payments can be made in the office, by mail and online. New this year, cash payments can also be made at any MoneyGram location. MoneyGram has over 40,000 retail locations nationwide including 12,000 CVS Pharmacy and Walmart locations. According the County Treasurer Rob Chase, “The partnership with MoneyGram provides taxpayers with yet another payment option and many of the locations are open 24/7”. Chase hopes MoneyGram will be as well received as the Treasurer’s enhanced online payment center. Online payments have increased by 85% since the new payment portal was implemented in 2012. MoneyGram adds a $4.99 convenience fee per transactions. To find a MoneyGram location, go to www.moneygram.com.
Taxpayers who are having trouble making payments can contact the Treasurer’s Office in order to sign up for a partial payment plan. Under existing law, taxpayers must be current with their 2014 taxes and sign an agreement to qualify for the program. Beginning in 2015, new legislation, spearheaded by Chase goes into effect. The new law will allow taxpayers to pay any amount at any time without an agreement, making it easier for taxpayers to get caught up. “Hopefully those who are struggling can make it through this year,” Chase said. He added, “The new law will be much more helpful and much less bureaucratic.”
