Washington State Governor Jay Inslee has appointed Spokane County Commissioner Al French to the State Building Code Council (SBCC). French was unanimously nominated by the Washington State Association of Counties to fill a vacant position on the SBCC. His appointment is effective immediately and French will serve on the SBCC through January 2017. “I am honored by Governor Inslee’s appointment to the State Building Code Council and pleased that my expertise as an architect and property developer will be put to good use," French said.

Washington State Building Code Council
The State Building Code Council (SBCC) was created to provide independent analysis and objective advice to the legislature and the Governor’s Office on state building code issues. The SBCC establishes the minimum building, mechanical, fire, plumbing and energy code requirements necessary to promote the health, safety and welfare of the people of the state of Washington by reviewing, developing and adopting the state building code.

The SBCC is funded by a $4.50 fee per building permit, plus $2 per unit for buildings containing more than one residential unit.

In Washington State, about 100,000 building permits are issued annually by local building departments.
