Inmate Work Crew Program
Supporting Spokane Communities
Since 2006, approximately 310,000 minimum security Spokane County inmate man hours were used on off site work crews. These crews perform manual and skilled labor such as clean up, litter pick up, graffiti removal, forestry work, limited maintenance and
other projects for non-profit and government agencies related to public health, safety and welfare.
Employing Work Crews
Geiger work crews consist of a Corrections Deputy and 8-10 minimum security inmates. Contracts for crews range from several hours to long term yearly contracts.
The standard rate for a 8-10 person crew with a Supervisor is $350.00 per day and $0.55 cents per mile. Disposal fees can be billed separately through contract or through Geiger Corrections.

Work Crew Composition
Inmates assigned to work crew are considered low risk. Crews consist of inmates confined at Geiger Corrections Center on pre-sentenced and sentenced misdemeanors or gross misdemeanors. Inmates held on felony charges are ineligible to participate in off
site work crews until they are sentenced and court authorized work crew. In addition, Geiger Corrections assigns inmates on a case by case basis and they can be excluded if they do not meet certain criteria. This includes:
- Major rule violations or behavioral issues
- Assaultive or violent criminal history
- Previous escape history
- No sex offenders
