Detention Services - Geiger Corrections

Inmate Work Crew Program

Supporting Spokane Communities

Since 2006, approximately 310,000 minimum security Spokane County inmate man hours were used on off site work crews.  These crews perform manual and skilled labor such as clean up, litter pick up, graffiti removal, forestry work, limited maintenance and other projects for non-profit and government agencies related to public health, safety and welfare.

Employing Work Crews

Geiger work crews consist of a Corrections Deputy and 8-10 minimum security inmates.  Contracts for crews range from several hours to long term yearly contracts.

The standard rate for a 8-10 person crew with a Supervisor is $350.00 per day and $0.55 cents per mile.  Disposal fees can be billed separately through contract or through Geiger Corrections.

2006-2008 Geiger Work Crew Stats

  • Inmate man hours:  265,000
  • Garbage collected:  294,000 Pounds
  • Graffiti removed:  38,900 Sites

Work Crew Composition

Inmates assigned to work crew are considered low risk.  Crews consist of inmates confined at Geiger Corrections Center on pre-sentenced and sentenced misdemeanors or gross misdemeanors.  Inmates held on felony charges are ineligible to participate in off site work crews until they are sentenced and court authorized work crew.  In addition, Geiger Corrections assigns inmates on a case by case basis and they can be excluded if they do not meet certain criteria.  This includes:

  • Major rule violations or behavioral issues
  • Assaultive or violent criminal history
  • Previous escape history
  • No sex offenders
