Application Process (Non-Civil Service Recruitments)
Spokane County accepts applications for open recruitments only (resumes are not accepted in lieu of completing the appropriate application materials); thus, it is extremely important to monitor, on a weekly basis, current employment opportunities.
How do I apply?
If you find a position for which you are qualified and wish to apply, it is helpful to obtain a copy of the recruitment posting (available here on the county website or in the Human Resources Office). All information pertinent to the recruitment is listed on the posting, so it is important to read through the announcement in its entirety prior to applying. Each recruitment posting will have a section called “How to Apply”, listing the required application materials- follow the application instructions carefully and completely, submitting all required materials listed (no more, no less). All required application materials must be received in the Human Resources Office by 4:30 p.m. on the recruitment closing date (no postmarks will be accepted). Materials received after this date will not receive consideration.
Applications may be submitted via:
- U.S. Postal Service Mail (Spokane County Human Resources,1229 West Mallon, Spokane, WA 99260)
- Hand delivery to 1229 W. Mallon, Spokane, WA

- Fax to (509) 477-5642
What happens next?
You’ve submitted your materials…. now what? Once a recruitment closes, applications are generally screened for minimum requirements (the minimum level of education and/or experience required for each position). Because this screening is based solely on the information contained in the Spokane County Employment Application, it is very important to list you education and/or experience on this document in as much detail as possible. Applications meeting the minimum requirements are forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.
Candidates possessing qualifications most closely matching the position requirements may be invited to participate in additional testing processes, including written exams, assessment centers, interviews, etc. In some cases, a background check and/or polygraph may be required.
The entire selection process may take several weeks. Due to the volume of applications processed, candidates are typically not notified of the status of their application. You may, however, contact the Human Resources Department at (509) 477-5750 at any time to request an update on the status of a particular recruitment.
As a condition of employment, successful candidates must present documentation proving authorization to work in the United States, as required by federal law, and pass a County physical/drug screen exam (as required for the position).
Accommodation will be made for persons of disability. Contact the Human Resources Department at (509) 477-5750 for further information.
