Training and Education

Physicians

Both of the physicians employed in the Medical Examiner's Office attended Medical School at the University of Washington, and also completed subspecialty fellowship training in Forensic Pathology at the King County Medical Examiner's Office in Seattle. These two physicians are board certified in Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. Board certification is a rigorous process requiring specialized training, recommendation, and successful completion of board examinations. In Washington State, physicians are required to complete continuing education requirements in order to maintain licensure.

Medicolegal Death Investigators

The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office employs 4 full time investigators and a number of part time investigators. An investigator is available 24 hours a day, every day.

All of the full time investigators and 3 part-time investigators are currently registered with the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. Registration requires experience in the field, successful completion of a written examination, recommendation, and continuing education.
