American Red Cross Courses

Spokane County Aquatics offers Red Cross Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, CPR and First Aid Courses. Check below for 2014 course schedules.

Red Cross Lifeguard Training Courses (LGT):  

Upon completion of the LGT course, participants will receive an American Red Cross LGT certificate, which includes First Aid Skills, and is valid for 3 years. Participants will also receive a certificate in CPR/AED for the professional Rescuer which is valid for 2 years.  

Fee: $215.00, includes all materials
Location: The Northside Aquatics Facility
Course Prerequisites: Age 15 by conclusion of course. Be prepared to swim 300 yards and complete the brick test on first day of class. Bring towel, dry clothes and appropriate swim wear to each class.

Lifeguard and CPR Challenge Course: 

This course is for current red cross certified lifeguards or Red Cross Lifeguards whose certification has expired within the past 12 months. Participants will be tested on skills learned in lifeguard training course. Participants must come prepared to pass both the written and physical portions of the test. Upon completion of the challenge course participants will receive an American Red Cross lifeguarding and first aid certification which is valid for 3 years. Participants will also receive a certificate in CPR/AED for the professional rescuer which is valid for 2 years. 

Fee: $75.00, includes rescue marks
Location: The Northside Aquatics Facility
Prerequisites: Bring LGT textbook and current Red Cross LGT card with you to first day of class   
Be prepared to swim 300 yards on first day of class    
Bring towel, dry clothes, snack and appropriate swim wear to each day of class

 Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course:

This course will help you teach skills that may save a life, gain terrific work experience as an aquatics professional, earn money or join a volunteer team while you help people learn valuable skills.  In addition you will learn organizational and presentation skills that will help you in any career and make a difference in peoples lives. Whether you want to splash around with kids and teach them to swim, help children and adults refine their strokes or teach diving safety techniques, you can do it as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.

Fee: $215.00, includes all materials
Location: The Northside Aquatics Facility
Prerequisites: Minimum age of 16.  Fundamentals of Instructor Training Course (FIT) will be provided with the course. Demonstrate swimming skills by swimming the following strokes: Front Crawl - 25 yards; Back Crawl - 25 yards; Breaststroke - 25 yards; Elementary backstroke - 25 yards; Sidestroke - 25 yards; Butterfly - 15 yards.  Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling).  Tread water for 1 minute.

CPR Challenge Course:

This comprehensive CPR course provides training for use with adult, infant and child victims in a variety of emergency situations. Skills include performing rescue breathing, clearing an obstructed airway, and performing one-rescuer CPR. You will also discuss cardiovascular disease and injury prevention.

Fee: $50.00

Prerequisites: Bring current Red Cross CPR card and LGT or CPR textbook with you to class
