Phillip Wetzel has been a lawyer in Spokane for 34 years.
He graduated with honors from Gonzaga Law School in 1978 and began working in the Spokane County Prosecuting Attorneys Office in District Court immediately thereafter.
He worked in the juvenile and felony departments for 5 years and entered private practice in 1986. Since then he has worked primarily in the defense of accused persons.
Currently his practice is distributed among the District, Superior and Federal Courts and he appears in courts throughout Eastern Washington.
His work has been recognized with a Martindale Hubbell AV rating, receipt of the President’s Award from the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and a Smithmore Myers Professionalism Award.
He has been active on committees for the District, Superior and Federal Courts. He was the Eastern Washington representative to the National Conference of Criminal Justice Act Lawyers and is a former president of the Federal Bar Association and the Board of Directors for the Federal Defenders of Eastern Washington. He has handled dozens of serious cases including complex white-collar and healthcare fraud, death penalty prosecutions, homicides, and complex Federal drug conspiracies.
