New Lawyer Orientation Program at Superior Court

Kim Kilham, Civil Case Coordinator addressing attendees of new lawyer orientation.Superior and District Court Judges and Administrators provided an intensive one and one-half day orientation program for new lawyers earlier this month. Coordinated by the Spokane County Bar Association, Young Lawyers’ Division, the group of 6 lawyers was given practical insights into court operations to assist them in their chosen career.

Those lawyers who have passed the bar exam and who have expressed an interest in setting up a law practice are eligible for this CLE training. The program is also available to any lawyer who is interested in learning more about specific court practices and procedures.

On November 5th, Judges Linda Tompkins, Greg Sypolt, Neal Rielly, Kathleen O'Connor, Jerome Leveque and Harold Clarke provided information on trial preparation and courtroom procedures for their respective docket assignments. Court Administrator Ron Miles and Court Coordinators Kim Kilham and Judy Ottoson shared information on case management and scheduling, and jury management and jury trial coordination.

Participants are also given an opportunity to visit and ask questions in Bankruptcy and U.S. District Court as well as the Court of Appeals. Photo of Penny Youde, Executive Director of the Spokane County Bar Association.
