The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement unit is dedicated to the safe operation and driving of Commercial Motor Vehicles through education, enforcement and engineering.

Our unit motto is “
Ensuring the general motoring public and all commercial drivers are safe around Commercial Motor Vehicles within Spokane County”.

The unit is tasked with educating and enforcing all Federal Commercial Motor Vehicle regulations along with Washington State law in over 2400 lineal miles within Spokane County. The unit is comprised of two full time and dedicated deputies who have undergone 2 months of training within the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Part A and Part B schools and Washington State Patrols rigorous Size, Weight and Load school. Once the schools are completed, the deputies undergo a Field Training Program where they must complete 32 level 1 inspections with a Field Training Officer before they are released to perform inspection on their own.

Deputies are responsible for performing level 1-3 Federal Department of Transportation inspections which include driver qualifications, truck and trailer inspections looking for defective equipment, legal load securement and weight enforcement.  The Spokane County CVEO’s are as well responsible for enforcing all local and seasonal road restrictions set in place by the Spokane County Engineers.

Along with enforcement, the CVEO deputies perform education classes to any motor carrier, business, drivers and mechanics who want to learn about Federal and State laws involving Commercial Motor Vehicles free of cost and at the request of the company.  The Spokane County CVEO’s recently were awarded a Federal Grant to perform levelled inspections as well as educating and enforcing accident causing violations around Commercial Motor Vehicles by passenger vehicles.

For local and seasonal road restrictions, please go to the Spokane County Engineers website for more information.
