Cigarette Litter Prevention Program

Get Your Butts In Here!

In March 2018, the Spokane County Eco Team was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Keep America Beautiful foundation to address cigarette butt litter on the County Courthouse campus. Spokane County was 1 of only 42 communities chosen for this grant!

The Spokane County Eco Team is comprised of employees from County Solid Waste, Stormwater, Water Resources, Public Works, and City Solid Waste. Together, the Eco Team wanted to raise public awareness about the environmental issues caused by cigarette butt litter.

The funding is being used to purchase and install more than 24 new ash canisters around the campus and beyond, as well as help with education and outreach to adult smokers.
