Lifeguard & Water Safety Instructor Courses in Spokane County

Various organizations within Spokane County offer American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Lifeguard Recertification, and Water Safety Instructor Courses throughout the year.  Some of those organizations are listed below. Click the link for each organization to find a class that works for you!

Lifeguard Training Course

American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses provide participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. Course completion requires demonstration of physical skills as well as passing a written exam.  Upon successful completion of the LGT course, participants receive American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certificates that are valid for 2 years.  Lifeguard Training Courses typically require 25-27 hours of total class time.  The cost for certification courses is determined by the organization providing the class and will vary by location.  This course is limited to those individuals that are at least age 15 by conclusion of the course and are able to successfully demonstrate the prerequisite swimming skills including a 300-yard swim, 2 minutes of treading water, and a timed diving-brick test.

Lifeguard Review Course

Lifeguard Review Courses are designed to help certified lifeguards update their skills while also extending their certification for another two years.  Course completion requires demonstration of physical skills as well as passing a written exam. Lifeguard Review Courses typically require 6-8 hours of total class time. The cost of a Lifeguard Review Course is determined by the organization providing the class and will vary by location.  This course is limited to individuals whose Lifeguard Certification is current or has expired within the last 120 days.  If 120 days have passed since the certificate expiration date, completion of the full Lifeguard Training Course is required for renewal.

Water Safety Instructor Course

The American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course provides instructor candidates with the skills needed to teach Red Cross Learn to Swim courses and make presentations to swimmers of every age and ability.  Course completion requires demonstration of physical skills as well as passing a written exam.  Upon successful completion of the WSI course, participants receive an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate that is valid for 2 years.  Water Safety Instructor Courses typically require 30-35 hours of total class time.  The cost for a course is set by the organization providing the class and will vary by location.  This course is limited to individuals that are at least age 16 by conclusion of the course.
