Project No: CRP 3264
Project Design Engineer: Mike J. Duke Jr., P.E.
Project Timeline: Design: 2020 - Construction: 2021
Project Description:
The Waikiki Road bridge is located on Waikiki Road approximately 1.5 miles east of Mill road in north Spokane County, Section 11 and 12, T 26N, R 42E, WM. The bridge, which crosses the Spokane River, which was constructed in 1961. Approximately 20 percent of the deck surface is spalled and delaminated with areas of exposed reinforcing steel. This significant deterioration in the bridge deck prompted the County to apply for and receive a federal grant in 2019 to rehabilitate the bridge deck.
The rehabilitation includes removing the top layer of the deck and replacing with a new concrete overlay. The asphalt approaches will be raised to match the new deck elevation. Temporary signals will be in place during construction with temporary short-term closures which will route traffic to Indian trail and Five Mile Road.
Project Funding:
Slated for construction in 2022, the project is expected to take approximately 6 weeks to complete. Engineers are working closely with, regulators, and the public to ensure a successful project. The project will be funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
