Court Commissioner Recruitment - Now Open

Spokane County Superior Court is accepting applications to fill two Court Commissioner positions. Commissioner Jeremy Schmidt has been appointed by Governor Inslee as a Superior Court Judge. Commissioner John Stine has announced his retirement effective October 16, 2023.

All applicants must have been admitted to the practice of law in the State of Washington for five years and must be members in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association. Per Court policy, a thorough criminal background investigation will be conducted on all applicants. Applicants are strongly urged to divulge complete criminal history information.

Salary app.: $184,782.35/yr. plus excellent benefits. To apply, submit a Spokane County Employment Application, the Superior Court Commissioner Supplemental Questionnaire, and the Washington State Bar Association Release of Information/Confirmation of Citizenship form. While these positions are anticipated to be long-term, changes in funding or Court needs may require reconsideration of the positions. Court Commissioners are an at-will position subject to annual performance reviews.

It is anticipated these Court Commissioner positions will be handling all dockets and assignments currently heard by Court Commissioners which include family law, paternity, child support, probate, guardianship/conservatorship, involuntary treatment act, criminal, juvenile offender, dependency and BECCA hearings.

To be considered for the first position vacated by Judge Jeremy Schmidt, applications and supplemental materials must be received in the office of the Superior Court Administrator no later than noon on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

To be considered for the second position vacated by Commissioner John Stine, applications and supplemental materials must be received in the office of the Superior Court Administrator no later than noon on Friday, September 22, 2023.
