Domestic Violence Incident Ends with Male Shot in the Leg

Spokane County Major Crime Detectives are at the scene of a shooting at a residence in West Spokane County.  Initial information is the shooting occurred during an altercation between an adult male and female who are in a volatile dating relationship.  During an argument, which began last night and continued into this afternoon, the female felt threatened and armed herself.  As the confrontation continued, one shot was fired, striking the male in the leg.

This afternoon, at approximately 1:35 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence 1000 block of N. Fairchild Dr. for a reported shooting.

Arriving Deputies contacted a male who had suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg and a female.  The male was transported to a local hospital and the female was detained and is cooperating.

Major Crimes Detectives responded to the scene to continue the investigation.

Initial information gathered indicates the male and female are dating and have had a volatile relationship.  An altercation, which began last night, continued into this afternoon.  The female stated she began to fear for her safety and armed herself with a handgun.  The altercation escalated and the female fired one shot, striking the male in the leg.

The female is cooperating with investigators and stated she feared for her safety and tried to fire a warning shot during a struggle, which struck the male’s leg.

Investigators remain at the scene as they work to determine exactly what occurred and if this was an incident or self-defense or if anything criminal occurred.  Neither person involved has been arrested or charged at this time.
