Detectives Investigating In-Custody Death

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives are investigating the death of an inmate at the Spokane County Jail.

Early this morning at approximately 2:40 a.m., while conducting a cell check, a Spokane County Detention Services Officer discovered an unresponsive male inmate.  He immediately requested medical assistance and life-saving efforts were initiated.

Spokane City Fire and AMR crews were also called to assist.  Despite the efforts to revive the male, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Per standard protocol with in-custody deaths, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies and Major Crimes Detectives responded to conduct an investigation.

The inmate was being held for several misdemeanor charges and was the only person in the locked cell.

The name of the inmate will be released at a later date by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office along with cause and manner of death.
