Traffic Violations/DUI/Warrants/Drugs
A traffic stop, after the driver failed to stop at two stop signs, ended with his arrest for DUI, Possession of Heroin/Meth, Driving while Suspended and three warrants.
Just after 12:30 a.m. this morning, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Branson Schmidt observed a Ford Thunderbird fail to stop at a stop sign located at Cuba/Frederick and another one at Havana/Frederick, as it went around the block.
Deputy Schmidt stopped the vehicle near Frederick/Custer and contacted the driver, identified as 27-year-old Jordan G. Brown. A check of Brown’s name revealed his driving status was suspended and he had multiple active warrants for his arrest. During the contact and subsequent arrest of Brown, Deputy Schmidt observed signs and behavior which led him to suspect Brown was driving under the influence of drugs/opiates.
Deputy Skye Ortiz arrived to assist and conduct the DUI investigation. Brown, who was sweating profusely and appeared lethargic, was advised of his rights, agreed to answer questions and admitted to using heroin a few hours prior to driving. Based on all of these observations and Brown’s statement, Brown was advised he was being charged with DUI; a search warrant to obtain a blood sample was requested and granted.
During an impound inventory of the vehicle, two clear baggies were located. The contents of each were field tested and both showed presumptive positive results, one for heroin and one for methamphetamine. Brown denied any knowledge of the heroin or methamphetamine.
Brown was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance-Heroin, Possession of a Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine, Driving Under the Influence, and Driving while Suspended in addition to his three warrants; Driving while Suspended (2) and Criminal Trespass 1st Degree.
