Inmate Succumbs at Hospital After Suicide Attempt
Spokane County Sheriff’s Major Crime Detectives are investigating the death of a male who attempted suicide Saturday afternoon, while in his cell at the Spokane County Jail. He was transported to a local hospital but sadly, the male succumbed to his injuries.
On May 19, 2018 at approximately 1:50 p.m., while conducting cell checks, a Spokane County Detention Services Officer observed a male inmate hanging in his cell by a sheet, and called for immediate assistance via his radio.
Live-saving efforts were attempted by Corrections Officers and Medical Staff until they were relieved by responding AMR and Spokane Fire personnel. The male, who was the only person inside the locked cell at the time, was transported to a local hospital for additional treatment.
Due to the seriousness of his life-threatening condition, a court order was sought Sunday, releasing him from custody and into the care of his next of kin. Yesterday, he was pronounced deceased by attending hospital staff.
Detectives of the Major Crimes Unit are investigating this incident.
