Detectives Ask for Your Help Locating DV Stabbing Suspect
Detectives are attempting to locate DV Assault Suspect, 40-year-old Kenneth J. Derr and are requesting your help. Derr, a multi-time convicted felon who has been known to be armed in the past, has made statements he wants to take his own life or commit “suicide by cop” by trying to provoke law enforcement into shooting him. Detectives have probable cause to arrest Derr for Assault 1st Degree stemming from an incident last night where he stabbed his brother in the arm.
On June 20, 2018, just prior to 10:00 p.m., Spokane Valley Deputies responded to the emergency room at MultiCare Valley Hospital to contact a stabbing victim.
The victim stated he had been arguing with his brother, Kenneth Derr, at a residence near the 3200 block of S. Gillis in Spokane Valley. The argument escalated and Derr attempted to strike the victim in the head with a two-foot long pair of hedge trimmers and during the fight, he stabbed the victim in the arm with a knife.
During the attack, Derr stated he was going to make the victim kill him. The victim stated he has been attacked several times by Derr in the last few months and he is in constant fear for his life when Derr is around.
A search warrant was obtained for the residence but Derr was not located. Major Crimes Detectives were called to the scene to continue the investigation.
The victim stated Derr suffers from severe anger issues and has stated he wants to end his own life several times. Derr regularly talks about how he doesn’t want to go back to prison and would provoke law enforcement to “commit suicide by cop” given the opportunity.
Derr’s location is unknown at this time but he has been known to frequent North Idaho, specifically Kootenai County, in addition to Spokane Valley and the greater Spokane County area.
Derr is described as a white male, approximately 6’03”, 190 lbs., with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a gray shirt and brown sandals. He has been known to ride a mountain bike with a motor attached. It is unknow if Derr is armed, has access to weapons, or if he is using the mountain bike as a mode of transportation.
We would like Derr to surrender peacefully but we are also asking for the public’s help in locating him.
