Update: Deputy Involved Shooting on Hills Ct.


The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the name of the Deputy involved in the Officer Involved Shooting (OIS) incident which occurred on July 25, 2018, at the end of Hills Ct. near Fiske Street.  


Deputy Samuel Turner was hired by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office as a Lateral Deputy on October 1, 2015 and is third generation law enforcement.  He began his career as an Idaho State Police Trooper in August of 2012.


Deputy Turner is assigned to the Spokane Valley Precinct Patrol Division Night Shift.  He received a Life-Saving Award in 2017 after he revived a 2-year-old child who accidently fell into a decorative pond and had stopped breathing. 


Deputy Turner holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, with minors in Sociology and Government, from Eastern Washington University where he graduated with honors.


The SIRR Team’s investigation of the incident is ongoing. The SIRR Team is comprised of multiple agencies in eastern Washington, including the Spokane Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and the Spokane Valley Police Department.


• The Spokane Police Department is the case managing agency in this incident. All future communications regarding this investigation will be sent via the SIRR Team.


• Once the SIRR Team investigation is complete the case will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
