Suspect Eludes Deputies Last Night, Captured this Morning
The driver who fled from a traffic stop last night was captured early this morning when an alert citizen reported seeing a male leaving her garage. Deputies responded to the area and noticed the suspect sitting in the back seat of a vehicle stopped at an intersection. The suspect was taken into custody without incident after the car was stopped.
On February 7, 2019, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Cinkovich observed the driver of a light-colored Kia failed to signal a turn. Deputy Cinkovich activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop and contact the driver, later identified as 26-year-old Bjorn M. Manycolors.
Manycolors stopped in a gravel parking lot near Graves and Division, shut off the engine and immediately exited the vehicle. Deputy Cinkovich told Manycolors to get back in the car and close the door. Manycolors looked back at the patrol car, yelled back in disagreement but got back in the vehicle.
Due to Manycolors unusual behavior, Deputy Cinkovich requested a second patrol unit to assist and began to approach the vehicle. As he did, he heard Manycolors attempting to start the vehicle. Despite Deputy Cinkovich’s commands to stop, Manycolors got the engine started and drove away, rapidly and recklessly, right in front of Deputy Andrew Hairston, who had just arrived to assist.
With both Deputies in pursuit, Manycolors made his way back to Division and turned north. Deputy Hairston attempted to conduct a PIT maneuver to end the pursuit safely but was unsuccessful. After avoiding spike strips, deployed near Hastings, Manycolors immediately turned into the Fred Meyer parking lot. As Deputies began to terminate the pursuit due to increased concerns for the safety of the public, they noticed Manycolors pull up to the front of the store and stop abruptly near the south doors. Manycolors fled from the vehicle and ran inside.
Deputy Cinkovich ran through the store toward the back where a shopper advised Manycolors ran out through an emergency exit, into the tree line and out of sight.
Deputies, Spokane Police Officers, WSP Troopers, K9 Units and Air 1 searched the area for Manycolors, but he was not located.
The three passengers who remained in the vehicle all stated they told Manycolors to stop, and they wanted out, but he refused. They were not charged due to this incident, and two were later released at the scene. The third was found to have an active misdemeanor warrant for her arrest and was booked into jail.
This morning, February 8, 2019, at approximately 7:45 a.m., a citizen reported seeing a male (Manycolors) leaving her garage near Regina and Division.
Deputy Brian Hert responded to the area and observed Manycolors sitting in the back seat of a vehicle stopped at the intersection. He conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle, contacted the driver and asked her if she knew the male who had just got in the back seat of her vehicle. She said no and explained he just asked her for a ride. After Manycolors was detained/arrested, she was released at the scene.
Manycolors was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle, 3-counts of Reckless Endangerment and Driving while Suspended 3rd Degree. He was also booked on an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.
