[ARCHIVED] Crews plow/sand Emergency Routes and Primary Arterials

SnowPlow-Grader3

With Friday’s snowfall, road crews are focusing their efforts on Priority 1 and 2 roads (emergency routes and primary arterials respectively). The county has 25 plow trucks and 35 graders that are plowing and sanding throughout the county. Since last Thursday (Feb. 7th), crews have been working 10-14 hour shifts around the clock – and will continue to do so until the entire 2,500+ road system is finished.

We ask the public to be patient and understand that snow berms are the result of plowing roads. Currently, Public Works has a Snow Gate Pilot Program and is testing their effectiveness in two urban residential neighborhoods in the north and eastern parts of the county. The response has been very positive and Public Works plans to expand the program and purchase more gates for next winter.

Please remember to stay 50-feet back from snow removal equipment and NEVER attempt to pass on the right side. Property owners should also check their storm drains to make sure they are clear of snow and ice.
