What is it?
The voluntary VIP, video identification program, is a way for citizens or business to voluntarily let us know where video surveillance systems are and who to contact if possible video evidence may have been recorded.
If something occurred in a neighborhood, at a store or analysts identified crime trends in an area, investigators could immediately check the VIP program for possible locations of video surveillance in the area. They will still go door to door as they attempt to locate witnesses, but if they know camera may have recorded it, they will contact those locations first, potentially obtaining valuable information in minutes compared to hours or days.
