SVPD P-Release

Deceased Male Recovered from the Spokane River

Yesterday evening, Spokane County Sheriff’s Emergency Operations Team members recovered a deceased adult male from the Spokane River near Barker Road.  Spokane Valley Deputies and Major Crimes Detectives responded to assist and continue the investigation.

On August 1, 2019, Spokane Valley Deputies responded to the Barker Road Trailhead for the report of a body submerged in the river.

A witness at the scene reported; while he was swimming, he observed what appeared to be a white male submerged under several feet of water in the middle of the river.  He provided a description of the male’s clothing to Deputies.

Members of the Emergency Operations Team responded to the location and recovered the body.  Major Crimes Detectives also responded to assist in the investigation.

Detectives will work closely with the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office to positively identify the deceased male and determine if this is related to the reported suicidal missing persons from earlier this week.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Officer will release the name of the deceased pending positive identification in addition to cause and manner of death, when appropriate.
