Unloaded Handgun Found Near N. Vista and E. Wellesley

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies recovered an unloaded handgun and two empty magazines near the intersection of N. Vista Road and E. Wellesley Avenue this morning.  The firearm was not reported as stolen, and the owner has not been located.

On September 18, 2019, at approximately 10:10 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the call of a firearm found near Vista and Upriver Drive.  A child walking to school noticed the weapon and reported it to his parents, who called law enforcement.

The young child did exactly what he should have done.  He did not touch the firearm and reported it to an adult, in this case, his parents.

Deputies quickly responded to the area and located the Glock 9mm handgun at the intersection of Vista and Wellesley.  The Glock was off the main portion of the roadway to the northeast of the intersection.  Two unloaded magazines were also found in the general area.

A check of the serial number did not show the handgun as reported stolen, and no recent reports for weapons involved crimes were reported in the area.

The handgun and magazines were collected and placed into an evidence locker as found property.
