[ARCHIVED] Winter storm causes some damage in north and south parts of the county.

Winds and Snow Cause Damage in North and South County

SPOKANE COUNTY, October 9, 2019 – Last night’s winter storm brought down trees, branches and created icy conditions for drivers this morning. While some of the hardest hit areas were in the City of Spokane, parts of Spokane county also shared the brunt of the storm.

Slick roads and downed trees/branches were reported in north Spokane County, north of Francis and especially in the vicinity of Bigelow Gulch, Argonne and Forker Roads. In addition, parts of the West Plains (southwest Spokane County), reported up to seven-inches of snow in places. Today, crews are plowing (yes, plowing) and sanding roads, removing trees and branches that are in the public right-of-way, and de-icing in spots.

The National Weather Service forecast for the next few days shows gradually warmer afternoon highs with several days below-freezing overnight lows. Motorists are advised that the region could continue to experience icy road conditions during the overnight-morning commute. Please be patient and slow down!
