SPOKANE COUNTY, October 10, 2019 – Wednesday’s unseasonable winter storm snapped branches, downed trees and halted the paving project at Hayford and Geiger Blvd. on the West Plains.
Public Works scheduled the intersection of Hayford Rd. and Geiger to be paved this week, but the contractor – Shamrock Paving – lost power sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. The loss of power caused the “hotmix” asphalt to cool and partially solidify. Reheating the asphalt to the appropriate temperature and consistency will take several days. Consequently, paving the intersection has been delayed until next Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Until then, the intersection will remain closed and the detours remain in place.
On a brighter note, the Medical Lake interchange (I-90 Medical Lake/ SR 902) has been reopened by the Washington State Department of Transportation following the completion of several roundabouts to the north and south of the interchange.
