[ARCHIVED] Detectives Seek Information Regarding Previously Unreported Sexual Abuse

SVPD P-Release

Detectives Seek Information Regarding Previously Unreported Sexual Abuse

Spokane Valley Sexual Assault Unit (SAU) Detectives are investigating reports of sexual assault stemming back to the mid-1990s.  The suspect, 64-year-old Mark S. Hoffmeister, was arraigned this morning in Spokane County Superior Court for six felony charges as a result of the ongoing investigation.  Investigators believe other individuals, who have not had contact with law enforcement, may have additional information regarding this investigation, and they are asking them to come forward.

In mid-September of 2019, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip regarding sexual abuse of a young female, naming Hoffmeister as the suspect.

The information was referred to the Sexual Assault Unit for follow-up with Detective Humphrey assigned as the lead investigator.

Over the next few weeks, Detective Humphrey conducted several interviews as the investigation continued.  During this time, he learned Hoffmeister and his family at the time, were involved in local competitive gymnastics and frequently had contact with juveniles locally, and during out of town, gymnastic meets and family vacations.

This morning, Hoffmeister was arraigned in Spokane Superior Court for charges of Rape 2nd Degree, three counts of Rape of a Child 1st Degree, and two counts of Child Molestation in the 1st Degree where he pled not guilty.

Investigators encourage anyone who may have information regarding these allegations involving Mark S. Hoffmeister to contact Detective Brad Humphrey at 509-477-3028, reference #10133211.
