
Update: Deputy Involved Shooting in North Spokane
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the name of the Deputy involved in the Officer Involved Shooting (OIS) incident, which occurred on January 10, 2020, near the intersection of N. Wall and W. Weile in North Spokane.
Deputy Brent C. Miller was hired by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office in August of 2014 and currently assigned to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Downtown Precinct Patrol Division.
He is a current Sheriff’s Office instructor, certified in EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operation Course) and PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique).
Prior to joining the Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy, he volunteered as a Reserve Deputy for our agency beginning in March of 2013, while working construction.
In 2016, Deputy Miller received a Sheriff’s Office Certificate of Appreciation for his professionalism and dedication as a Deputy in the Patrol Division, and his dedication/hard work has been recognized by citizens, coworkers, and other law enforcement professionals.
The SIRR Team is comprised of multiple agencies in eastern Washington, including the Spokane Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and Spokane Valley Police Department.
As an involved agency, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office/Spokane Valley Police personnel will not be involved in this investigation in compliance with WAC 139-12, which was developed after the passage I-940.
• The Spokane Police Department is the case managing agency in this incident. All future communications regarding this investigation will be sent via the SIRR Team.
• Once the SIRR Team investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
