Help Us Welcome 10 News Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies 

On Tuesday, January 21, 2020, Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich swore in and welcomed our ten newest Deputies to the Sheriff’s Office.  


Deputy Trevor Ball is 23-years-old, graduated from University High School, and was a member of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Explorers program during that time. After graduating, he joined the United States Marines Corps where he honorably served our Country for 4-years as a Ground Radio Repairmen and Assistant Communications Chief. Deputy Ball is excited to be back and start his law enforcement career as a Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Deputy Dillon Christopher is 25-years-old and originally from San Diego. Previously, he worked as a Corrections Officer with the Nevada Department of Corrections (3-years) and the Lyons County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada (last 2-years). He is a self-described “outdoorsy” person and is happy to be in Spokane.

Deputy Davis “Hunter” French is 23-years-old and originally from California. He attended the University of Oregon and graduated in 2019 with a degree in Public Relations. Deputy Hunter most recently worked as a Guest Services Representative at the Inn at the 5th in Eugene, Oregon, but chose to start a career in law enforcement to make an impact and be a positive influence on the lives of others.

Deputy Catherine Horton is 24-years-old and originally from Tennessee. She attended Martin Methodist College and graduated in 2017 with a degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Psychology. While earning her degree, she also played soccer at Martin Methodist and was the Team Captain. Deputy Horton served as a Dispatcher for 2-years with the Post Falls Police Department and is excited to start a new chapter in her law enforcement career as a member of our team.

Deputy Avery Johnson is 22-years-old and originally from Burlington, WA.  He honorably served in the United States Air Force for 3-years as an Aircrew Flight Equipment Technician for the 92 Operation Support Group at Fairchild AFB. During that time, Deputy Johnson also found time to serve his community further as a volunteer for our Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort (S.C.O.P.E). 

Deputy Christopher Kirchmann is 25-years-old and originally from Minnesota. He served as a Missionary for 2-years in Southern California after graduating from high school and most recently worked at Furniture Row in Spokane Valley.  Deputy Kirchmann is motivated and excited to serve our community as he begins his career in law enforcement.

Deputy Micah Leighton is 23-years-old and from Deer Park. Before joining the Sheriff’s Office, he worked as a certified motorcycle and automotive technician at Europro Automotive in Spokane Valley. Deputy Leighton expressed his desire to serve our community and “always values integrity.”

Deputy Brandon McGowan is 30-years-old and from Davenport, WA. He is a Purple Heart recipient and honorably served in the United States Army for 6-years.  Deputy McGowan is excited to serve his community as he starts his new career in law enforcement with the Sheriff’s Office.  In his off time, he plays rugby for the Spokane Razorbacks. 

Deputy Alexis Ping-DiFiore is 27-years-old and originally from California. She attended California State University-Northridge and earned a degree in Family & Consumer Science in 2016. Before joining the Sheriff’s Office, she was self-employed as a clothing Designer/Production Manager. She looks forward to working with and helping people throughout her Law Enforcement career.

Deputy Michael Zhou is 31-years-old and originally from Queens, New York. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned a degree in Chinese. Deputy Zhou served honorably in the United States Army for 8-years, where he flew Blackhawk helicopters and attained the rank of Captain. He chose to apply with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office because of our high moral standards and values.

Please join us in welcoming our newest Deputies and members of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. In February, they are scheduled to attend the Basic Law Enforcement Academy, Class #804, held here in Spokane.
