Mother Arrested for Attempted Murder 1st Degree after Trying to Suffocate Her 5-Year-Old Son
Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives arrested 38-year-old Daphne M. Williams for attempting to suffocate and overdose her young son, and she planned to kill herself. Her son remains hospitalized in satisfactory condition at an area hospital. Williams was booked into jail, charged with Attempted Murder 1st Degree.
On March 14, 2020, at approximately 12:40 a.m., Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a welfare check at an apartment located in the 12500 block of E. 3rd Avenue in Spokane Valley.
The female that called identified herself as Williams and stated she tried to suffocate and overdose her 5-year-old son and tried to kill herself.
Arriving Deputies contacted Williams and detained her while other Deputies immediately provided medical assistance to the young child who was in and out of consciousness.
After being advised of her rights, Williams said, “It didn’t work. It didn’t work. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. Dying is hard. A lot harder than it looks.” She stated she crushed up several pills, and they both ingested a mixture of medications.
She said, “I’m so sorry! My baby boy, I’m so sorry!” adding, “The chemicals from China are meant to torture and kill all of us.”
The young child and Williams were rushed to the hospital for further medical treatment. The child remains hospitalized in satisfactory condition.
After being treated, Williams was transported and booked on March 15, 2020, for Attempted Murder 1st Degree. At her court appearance, her bond was set at $1,000,000.
