[ARCHIVED] Holidays & Heroes Food/Donation Drive

PR-M

Determined to Help Children in Need Safely Despite COVID

Holidays & Heroes Food/Donation Drive

As with everything in 2020, our annual Holidays & Heroes Food Drive and Event will be a little different to accommodate COVID-19 safety concerns, but we are determined to help our local children in need.

We know many people are struggling with this year’s events, but if you’re able to help with a donation, please stop in this Saturday, November 21, 2020, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or if you have an account, donate via VENMO.   @spokaneholidayandheroes

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Explorers and Sheriff’s Deputies will be in the parking lot of Barney’s Harvest Food located at 11205 E. Dishman Mica Road in Spokane Valley collecting donations to make Christmas wishes for local families come true.

Holidays & Heroes is an annual program where Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Explorers, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Spokane Valley Deputies, and Spokane County Detention Services Officers help local families in need. Through our local schools, we identify families in need of help during Christmas and over the Holidays.

This year, the event has changed to eliminate large gatherings while wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.  The child will still be picked up by a deputy/officer in uniform, in a patrol car, and brought shopping in small groups instead of a large event.  The smaller groups drive throughout the morning and early afternoon to Walmart on Broadway to shop for presents (clothing & toys) for the family.  A special shopper will keep an eye out for gifts for the child.  Small presents are purchased for family members with the shopping emphasis focused on the child and his/her siblings.

After shopping, the presents and food boxes will be loaded into the patrol cars and taken, with a hopefully smiling child, back to their family.

With the community's help, local business/credit unions, and other donations, along with the Spokane County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, we provide food, gifts, and toys for approximately 30 local families.

Please stop by Barney’s Harvest Food this Saturday, November 21, 2020, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and help us help those in need in our community.

Our Holidays and Heroes partners in Kootenai County (law enforcement, fire personnel, and first responders) are still working to help N. Idaho children and families in need with adjustments for safety to accommodate for COVID-19.   (Post Falls Police, Coeur d’Alene Police, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Kootenai County Fire, Rathdrum Police, Spirit Lake Police, just to name a few.)
