SIIR Release March 10, 2021, Officer-Involved Shooting


The Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team is investigating an Officer Involved Shooting that took place on March 7, 2021, around 7:11 p.m. in Chattaroy. The incident involved a member of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. 


The following information is based on preliminary statements and evidence collected in the first 24 hours of the investigation. 


At approximately 7:11 p.m. on March 7, 2021, a Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy was conducting a prowl check, at a location in the 6500 block of E. Grouse Road.  The prowl check was requested by the property owner due to some recent thefts at the property.  When the deputy arrived to perform the prowl check, the armed property owner confronted the deputy from the doorway of a building.  An exchange of gun fire occurred between the property owner and the deputy.  The property owner was struck by a bullet.


The deputy provided trauma care to the injured property owner until medics arrived at the scene.


Detectives have processed the scene for evidence and have completed interviews.


The property owner has been interviewed and is cooperating with the investigation. 


The property owner remains in an area hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.


This is an ongoing investigation.


The Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team (SIIR Team) is investigating this incident. 


This is preliminary information based on initial reports of the incident and evidence examined to date.


The SIIR Team is comprised of the Spokane Police Department, the Washington State Patrol, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, and other member agencies. 


The lead investigating agency in this investigation is the Spokane Police Department. The Washington State Patrol is assisting them.


The Spokane Police Department is the managing agency in this incident. All communications regarding this incident will be sent via the SIIR Team. 


The Spokane County Sheriff's Office will release the name of the Deputy involved in this incident. 


Once the SIIR Team investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
