
Traffic Crash Involving a Car and Firetruck on Palouse Highway
Palouse Highway Closed - Traffic Detour Established
Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Traffic Unit Investigators are at the scene of a vehicle crash on the Palouse Highway near Weger Road. The Palouse Highway is closed, and traffic is being detoured around the scene using side streets. Please avoid the area.
On July 2, 2021, at approximately 7:25 p.m., Spokane County Deputies responded to a reported vehicle collision on the Palouse Highway near Weger Road involving a small passenger car and a Spokane County Fire District 8 Support Unit.
The adult driver of the car was transported to the hospital with what appears to be serious injuries but not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver, and sole firefighter, did not appear to be injured and was not transported to the hospital.
Traffic Unit Technicians were called out to conduct the investigation.
SIRT Team Volunteers were requested to assist with traffic control.
Initial information indicates the car was traveling west on the Palouse Highway when it crossed over the centerline and struck the side of the firetruck, just behind the cab. The firetruck (a support unit and smaller than a full-sized fire engine) was traveling east at normal speeds when it was hit by the passenger car.
The Palouse Highway is closed in both directions, and traffic is being diverted around the scene using side roads. Please avoid the area while the investigation is conducted.
