SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash.; – In a unanimous vote Dec. 15, the Spokane County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution designating Spokane County as “Sports County USA.”
Spokane County and its partners intend to use the designation of “Sports County USA” in conjunction with, and in addition to, regional marketing efforts to attract visitors and world-class events to the region.
Spokane County Commissioner Al French, who sponsored the resolution, stated “This is an opportunity for our County to embrace a moniker and title we deserve. We have unparalleled access to the benefits and experience of hosting a vast variety of sporting events and recreational opportunities because of our unique venues and natural environment. Spokane County is one of the few places in the Nation where you can snow ski in the morning, water ski in the afternoon, and cap it all off with a Broadway show or Gonzaga game in the evening.”
Stephanie Curran, Chief Executive Officer for the Spokane Public Facilities District, added, “We are very excited for the opportunity to incorporate “Sports County USA” into our marketing and philosophy at the Spokane PFD. With the addition of The Podium and the new downtown outdoor sports stadium to our already impressive inventory of venues, we are primed and more ready than ever to live up to this ambitious designation.”
