[ARCHIVED] Detectives Investigating Infant Death

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crime Detectives are investigating the death of an infant at a residence located in the 19600 block of East Wellesley in Spokane County.

On August 29, 2016 at approximately 7:17 a.m., medical personnel were dispatched to the residence for a report of a baby not breathing. Once on scene, the infant was provided medical treatment and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Due to the questionable circumstance and the dirty and filthy living conditions inside the residence, deputies and Major Crimes Detectives were called to the scene.

Deputies were the told family arrived back at their residence on Sunday night after attending a party at a friend’s house. The parents fell asleep in the living room with the infant while their 11-year-old juvenile son went to sleep in his bedroom. When they awoke, they found the infant not breathing and called 911.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence and detectives spent most of yesterday processing the scene for evidence and conducting interviews.

The 11-year-old was placed with Child Protective Services while this investigation continues and investigators determine if criminal charges are warranted.

The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy to try and determine the cause and manner of death.

This is an active and ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
