[ARCHIVED] County crews working around the clock to clear road system.

Crews Working Around the Clock to Clear Road System

Largest county road system in the state at 5,100+ lane miles

Spokane County road crews have been working since Wednesday afternoon prepping for the most significant snow event so far this winter. Crews also worked through the night sanding and deicing. This morning, they are clearing emergency routes and primary arterials.

As temperatures warm later today, the snow will turn to a “wintry mix” with increased chances of sleet and/or freezing rain. With winds out of the S/SW and gusts of 40-50 mph expected overnight and into Friday, there is concern for some drifting to occur in south Spokane County, along with downed branches/trees that will damage power lines and result in outages.

As the snow becomes wetter, it also becomes heavier which will slow our efforts to clear the largest county road system in the state (5,100+ lane miles). Crews will keep the primary arterials clear today and work into the evening to make progress in plowing the secondary roads on Friday. Depending on conditions, crews expect to reach residential areas by this weekend.

Meanwhile, the public’s patience is appreciated and motorists are reminded to stay 50-feet behind snow removal equipment and NEVER attempt to pass on the right. To check on the progress of our plows check out the Snow Plow Activity Map at www.spokanecounty.org/publicworks.
