Crews Continue Working in Residential Areas

Map Shows Progress and Timeline for Completion

SPOKANE COUNTY, January 11, 2022 – While most of the county woke up to freezing rain and/or wet snow this morning, road crews continued to make progress in clearing residential areas. To track their progress, Public Works has developed a new snow plow map for residential areas that will be updated daily by noon. The map is color-coded and includes the projected completion dates for various areas. The Residential Areas Snow Plow Map is available at www.spokanecounty.org/publicworks

Currently, residential areas in south Spokane County have been completed and the department is shifting those resources to unplowed neighborhoods located primarily in the northern half of the county. With warmer temperatures and rain in the forecast for the remainder of the week, crews expect to complete the entire road system by Friday afternoon – if not sooner.

Public Works has a total of 74 pieces of winter maintenance equipment and 55 employees working the day shift (4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and another 8 employees working evenings (4:00 p.m. to Midnight) to clear the road system, which is the largest county road system in the State of Washington (5,100+ lane miles).
