UPDATE: “Tips” Lead to the Identification and Arrest of Robbery Suspects
Spokane Valley Major Crimes Detectives continued to investigate and, with “tips” from the public, confirmed the identity of the Armed Robbery Suspects. Both suspects have been located and booked into the Spokane County Jail.
Suspect #1 was identified as 34-year-old Jason R. Degler. Major Crimes Detective James Hall confirmed Degler’s identity and developed probable cause to charge him with Robbery 1st Degree. On March 30, 2022, Detective Hall and Detective Jason Hunt located Degler near the Sprague and Havana area and took him into custody without incident.
Degler was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Robbery 1st Degree. He is also being held on two additional charges, Trafficking in Stolen Property 2nd Degree and Escape 2nd Degree, stemming from other incidents. Degler’s total bond amount was set by Spokane County Superior Court Commissioner John Stine (first two charges) and Spokane County Superior Court Judge Maryann Moreno (third charge) at $45,000.
Suspect #2 was identified as 40-year-old Michael C. Malysa, and Detective Hall developed probable cause through the investigation to charge Malysa with Robbery 1st Degree.
On April 9, 2022, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified that Spokane Police Officers had contacted Malysa in the vehicle believed to have been used in the robbery. Malysa was taken into custody without incident, and the vehicle was seized as evidence and towed, pending a search warrant.
Malysa was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Robbery 1st Degree. His bond was set at $100,000 by Spokane County Superior Court Judge John Cooney.
We are thankful for all the “tips” submitted that helped Investigators positively identify these two suspects and hold them accountable.
We also appreciate the assistance and thank the Spokane Police Department Officers who located and safely arrested the second suspect.
