[ARCHIVED] Euclid Road Bridge Replacement Project Takes Steps Toward Construction

SPOKANE COUNTY, May 12, 2022 – The Spokane County Board of Commissioners took a significant step forward this week in the long effort to replace the Euclid Road Bridge in west Spokane County. During the consent agenda meeting this week, Commissioners unanimously voted for and signed Construction and Maintenance Agreements with the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway, which allows the Public Works Department to replace the Bridge.

Spokane County Public Works Director Chad Coles commended Commissioner Al French for his instrumental role in bringing the necessary parties together to get the agreements to the table and for his persistence and determination in advocating for the community which are the users of the bridge route.

After signing the agreements, Commissioner French commented, “This agreement took a lot longer than anyone anticipated. It has been a significant hardship for the residents in that area and for our service members from the SERE School at Fairchild. We started working on this bridge replacement three years ago. While it has been frustrating, it’s a relief to know now that we will soon be able to restore access, increasing quality of life for residents, decreasing emergency response times, and playing a role in increasing mission readiness for Fairchild Air Force Base.”

Public Works will begin advertising for a contractor on Thursday, May 12, 2022, and bids will be accepted for three weeks.  The Euclid Road Bridge Project will cost approximately $2.6 Million and construction details will be available once a contractor is in place and collaborating with BNSF.  Construction will include demolition of the old wooden span, realignment of the bridge approaches, and a new reinforced concrete span that will cross over BNSF railroad tracks.  Once completed and inspected, BNSF will transfer ownership of the bridge to Spokane County.
