[ARCHIVED] Deputy Pulls Distraught Female from Bridge Edge

Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Lawler was driving to a call on September 22, 2016, at approximately 11:40 a.m., when he noticed a female sitting on the edge of the Sunset Bridge. Deputy Lawler stopped and contacted the female and asked if she was okay. He noticed she was holding a small dog as she told him to leave her alone.

Deputy Lawler continued to talk with the female and tried to convince her she didn’t want to hurt herself as she continued to look down over the edge of the bridge.

Additional deputies arrived to assist as Deputy Lawler explained the deputies were also there to help her. When the female looked at the approaching deputies, Deputy Lawler ran over, grabbed the female and her dog pulling them away from the edge of the bridge.

The female was uninjured and was released into the custody of arriving medical personnel.

The dog was uninjured and was released to SCRAPs for care.
