SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. –– Spokane County on behalf of the Steering Committee of Elected Officials announced Nov. 9, 2022, an reached agreement on updating the Countywide Planning Policies.
The Countywide Planning Policies guides growth in the county through an agreed-upon series of public policies to address expansion of urban areas for home construction and economic growth. It also defines joint planning areas and activities between cities and the County. The Countywide Planning Policies is a foundational document for all Comprehensive Plans adopted by Spokane County and the cities within the county.
The Steering Committee of Elected Officials is comprised of representatives from all the communities in Spokane County to include the County Commissioners, council members, and mayors. This group is formed by the Growth Management Act to coordinate growth policies for Spokane County.
These proposed policies are posted on the Spokane County Building & Planning website at www.spokanecounty.org/BP.
The Steering Committee considered these amended policies at a public hearing today and made an unanimous recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners for adoption.
Offering his perspective on the adoption of the policies, Spokane County Commissioner Al French said, “Updating the Countywide Planning Policies positions us to strategize for future growth while at the same time protecting what we value about Spokane County. I want to thank my fellow elected officials and their staff for their collaborative efforts in finding a shared vision of our future.”
The Spokane County Commissioners are scheduled to consider the Steering Committee’s recommendation in December.
