Head-on Collision on W. Rutter Parkway

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Traffic Unit, investigated a head-on crash on W. Reutter Parkway on Saturday night.  The driver of one vehicle was arrested for Vehicular Assault, and his passenger was transported to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.  The second vehicle's adult driver was also transported for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

On February 11, 2023, at approximately 6:15 pm, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a head-on collision in the 8300 block of W. Rutter Parkway.

Arriving Deputies contacted a SCRAPS Officer who arrived at the scene and reported the incident shortly after it occurred.

Due to the serious nature of the crash and injuries, Spokane County Sheriff’s Traffic Unit Investigators were called to the scene.

Initial information indicates the driver of a blue BMW, later identified as 20-year-old Benjamin J. Pointer, was traveling west on Rutter Parkway at a high rate of speed with an adult female passenger.  An adult male, driving a Toyota Camry, was traveling eastbound, planning to turn left into a private drive.  The two vehicles collided, causing injury to the BMW passenger and the driver of the Toyota.  Both were transported to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Pointer was contacted and showed indications of possible impairment.  After evaluations were completed, Pointer was arrested for Vehicular Assault.  A search warrant was obtained for a sample of his blood for testing was granted.

Pointer was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Assault 2nd Degree.

Pointer and his passenger were reportedly not wearing their seat belts.
