UPDATE: Suspect in Fatal Hit and Run Charged and Booked into Juvenile Detention

Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Traffic Unit Investigators developed probable cause to charge the 16-year-old suspect in a fatal hit and run vehicle/pedestrian collision that occurred on the evening of January 27, 2023.

Arrangements were made through the suspect’s attorney and family to meet Detectives at the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center on the afternoon of February 27, 2023, where he was taken into custody and booked for Vehicle Hit and Run Personal Injury/Death, a Class B Felony.  

Detectives continue investigating this tragic incident and what factors led to this deadly crash.

UPDATE: Traffic Unit Detectives Identify Suspect and Vehicle Involved in Fatal Hit and Run

The Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Traffic Unit Investigators have identified the juvenile driver and the vehicle believed to have been involved in this fatal hit and run collision.  

On January 30, 2023, Traffic Unit Investigators, with the assistance of a RIG 9 Crime Analyst, located video that assisted in identifying the possible suspect vehicle.  One of the Spokane Valley Investigative (SVIU) Unit Detectives recognized some of the vehicle’s distinct characteristics and an area where he had seen the vehicle several times.  

Detectives located the vehicle on S. Bowdish Road and noted it had front-end damage consistent with this incident.  As they continued investigating, they identified the 16-year-old driver.

Investigators continue to work toward learning what led up to this fatal incident.  Once all the facts and evidence have been collected, the appropriate charges will be sought based on the thorough investigation.

Traffic Unit Investigates Fatal Hit and Run Vehicle/Pedestrian Collision on E. Sprague and Asks for Your Help 

The Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal vehicle/pedestrian hit and run collision in the 12800 block of E. Sprague last night in Spokane Valley.  This fatal incident occurred on January 27, 2023, between the hours of 9:40 pm and 10:15 pm.  

Investigators are asking for anyone who may have information regarding what occurred or can help identify the vehicle/suspect involved to call Corporal T. Miller at 509-477-3195.  

They also ask businesses in the area that capture video of Sprague Avenue or may have captured anything suspicious in the surrounding area that may help with this investigation to contact Corporal T. Miller at 509-477-3195.    

On January 27, 2023, at approximately 10:15 pm, Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the call of a female who appeared to be deceased on the north side of the road, 12805 E. Sprague.  

Deputies and Spokane Valley Fire personnel arrived and located the adult female victim, pronounced deceased, at the scene.  

Spokane Valley Traffic Unit Investigators were called to the scene.

Initial information indicates the victim left Yokes, 13014 E Sprague Ave, at approximately 9:41 pm and was crossing Sprague from south to north, toward Hometown Studios, 12803 E. Sprague, when she was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound.  

No one reported anything or called in the collision until 10:15 pm when a person reported finding the deceased victim.   

Investigators believe the suspect vehicle will have right-front, passenger’s side damage.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the victim at a later time when appropriate.
